An internship with CPLA requires MFT trainees and interns to commit to work 2 days per week at an assigned school (either elementary or high school) for one school year (August-June). Schools are located throughout Los Angeles from the South Bay to the San Fernando Valley. In one school year, counselors can expect to receive approximately 250-300 face-to-face child hours. Individual and/or group supervision is provided. Monthly workshops are mandatory and cover various topics such as bullying, self-injury, play therapy, and grief. CPLA’s well-earned reputation for support and supervision makes us a highly sought provider of internship opportunities by both students and universities. This enables us to place only the truly dedicated and reliable counselors who want to work with children and who will work as partners within the collaborative school environment.
WHAT OUR COUNSELORS SAY ABOUT CPLA:
“I came to work for CPLA because of Monica’s and Therese’s compassionate hearts for the children they work with. They have inspired several counselors including myself to work in schools and provide in-school counseling for kids that might not receive it elsewhere or who need the extra support during hardships they face day in and day out. They believe the success of every student every day is important as I do.”
Caroline Iscovitz, CPLA counselor 2012-2013
“CPLA is an organization that transforms children’s insecurities & feelings of hopelessness into real goals and wishes for the future.”
Liz Mohun, CPLA counselor 2012-2014”
“CPLA is a safe haven for students who find themselves struggling academically and/or emotionally. As counselors, we make it our goal to change a life in a positive and healthy way, every day. Therese and Monica respect us as human beings and support us in every way possible. I not only consider them my supervisors, but I also consider them my mentors.”
Yoseline Lopez-Marroquin, CPLA counselor 2012-2013
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to work for CPLA, grow my skills as a clinician and help our students with whatever issues they struggle with.”
Alyonka Semeniuta, CPLA counselor 2012-2013
